Enchanting "NKK+"
23.03.2010What an exceptional week we’ve had! Involving four imposing instrumental soloists: Raphaela Danksagmüller, Noor Kamerbeek, André Heuvelman en Emile Cantor. And four composers and their outstanding scores: Kalliope Tsoupaki, Aubert Lemeland, Philippe Gouttenoire and Patrick Burgan.
Plus fifteen superb singers who, conducted inspiringly by Klaas Stok, at all three concerts extracted the maximum from the in every respect impressive music.
(Talk after the concert in the Muziekgebouw with the four composers and Klaas Stok, and journalist Thea Derks)
With the passionate fervour of Tsoupaki with the flugelhorn, the warm, utterly French lyricism of Lemeland with the viola, the melancholy enchantment of Gouttenoire with the duduk and the dazzlingly radiant twinkling of Burgan with the flute. How diverse can a programme be? But also how coherent, as the Volkskrant newspaper rightly commented?
Poetic vision and musical imagination propelled the choral singing to great heights, whilst each instrumental soloist managed to add a particular colour to the vocal element. Time and again the audience reaction was one of surprise at so much musical beauty. Or as one audience member remarked: “I didn’t know modern music could be so beautiful!”
