De Rolls-Royce onder de kamerkoren

The Rolls-Royce

20.08.2008

"It was a rare moment. On Thursday evening the Collegiate Church of St. Michel in Fribourg was host to a vocal ensemble which sets an example for the performance of contemporary repertoire: the Nederlands Kamerkoor.” So began the review which La Liberté published on Saturday, 12 July 2008, which later referred to the NKK as an “ensemble vocal de référence”, or, as the chairman of the Festival International de
Musiques Sacrées
in Fribourg called it, the “Rolls-Royce” among chamber choirs.

After a unique concert, with a large audience that listened with great attention and concentration to these “intense and beautiful voices, which are so in tune and precise that you sit listening with bated breath, and which are perfectly in balance”, the audience demanded an encore by stamping their feet and cheering, and that following a programme consisting entirely of works from the 20th and 21st centuries, including the première of the beautiful Oscura Luce by Denis Schuler, winner of the Festival’s composition competition.

The concert was broadcast live from the church by Radio Suisse Romande and the European Broadcasting Union. And so ended the Nederlands Kamerkoor’s 2007/2008 season, on the one hand with great satisfaction about the successes achieved, and on the other with utter incomprehension concerning the decision by the Dutch Fund for the Performing Arts to reduce the subsidy for the choir by 60%, without any grounds for such a decision. But more about this elsewhere on our website.
