Grete Pedersen debuteert bij het Nederlands Kamerkoor

Grete Pedersen makes her debut with the Nederlands Kamerkoor

23.01.2008

The day after one of the recent concerts with the Norwegian conductor Grete Pedersen, a member of the audience wrote us the following: ‘It was amazing, overwhelming and incredibly moving. The piece by Xenakis being followed immediately by the Messiaen was out of this world. Truly magnificent. Many thanks!!!!’

And this was not the only enthusiastic reaction we received. After every one of the eight concerts throughout the country, excited audience members came to tell us about their particular special experiences, and this despite the fact that this programme was decidedly less easy on the ear than its title suggested. Indeed, the press seems to have had a problem with the combination of Grieg’s poignant, non-liturgical psalms and the contemporary works by Xenakis, Saariaho and Østergaard.

Nonetheless, the general consensus was that Grete Pedersen made an exceptional debut with the NKK, and that its singers, under her all-round inspiring and skilful direction, managed to surmount all obstacles of time, technique and language.

The ‘Parool’ newspaper had this to say: ‘ Pedersen makes an excellent impression in her debut with the Nederlands Kamerkoor. Under her direction the choir sounds homogeneous, fresh and well-balanced. Furthermore, in an unaffected manner she manages to achieve a high degree of expressivity. May she make a speedy return.’ And that she certainly will!
