Irene Witmer new managing director Nederlands Kamerkoor

03.03.2010

As of 1 August Irene Witmer will become the managing director of the Nederlands Kamerkoor. She will be ultimately responsible for both artistic and business policy.

Witmer (1955) has extensive experience in the management and programming of classical music. Since 2001 she has worked at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam as the programmer and producer of the Robeco Summer Concerts, and later of the Sunday Morning Concert series too. As Head of Concert Production she is also responsible for the production side of the Concertgebouw’s Own Programming series.

She studied singing with Erna Spoorenberg at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam. For more than twenty years Witmer worked for various impresarios, representing many artists. In 1994 she set up her own agency, Irene Witmer Management, where her activities included the organisation of concerts and festivals, such as the Day of Frank Martin and the first International Choral Biennale in Haarlem, an assignment she received from the Nederlands Kamerkoor.

Irene Witmer:
“ With this appointment I am returning to my roots – my love of singing, and, more specifically, of choral singing. I’m eager to promote the cause of classical music for all. In addition the managing directorship of the Nederlands Kamerkoor offers me the fantastic combination of final artistic and business responsibility, in a totally logical continuation of my career. “
