Masters and pupils
18.01.2011In cooperation with the Nederlands Kamerkoor, the Tettix Foundation has started an exciting project with young singers: Meesters en Gezellen - ‘Masters and pupils’. Twenty young singers will perform a concert programme, together with experienced singers from the Nederlands Kamerkoor, led by conductor Kaspars Putnins. This project has been initiated by Geert Berghs to bridge the gap between training at conservatories and the working practices of a professional chamber choir.
In the old days it was normal practice for a ‘journeyman’ to study with a master craftsman. This tried and tested way of learning the tricks of the trade has gone out of fashion during the last century, but in this project it is being given a revival. Twenty young, enthusiastic singers will give a series of concerts, together with their experienced colleagues from the Nederlands Kamerkoor and under the guidance of vocal coach Geert Berghs. Under the leadership of the Latvian conductor Kaspars Putninš they will study a challenging concert programme, which will then be performed in six magnificent churches throughout the Netherlands.
The ‘apprentices’ will learn how to employ their individual qualities in ensemble singing - an aspect of singing which unfortunately (but at the moment unavoidably) is given too little attention at Dutch conservatories. Now they will be performing in concerts at the highest level, led by an internationally renowned choral conductor. For young singers, this project is an important step towards a professional career.
