“Vocal acrobatics from the Nederlands Kamerkoor”
07.11.2007This was the headline in the Leeuwarder Courant the day after the special concert which the choir and the Nieuw Ensemble had given in Heerenveen. Conducted by Emilio Pomarico, this exciting Stravinsky/de Leeuw project opened the Northern Choral Festival’s Vocal Variety.
The programme contained two extensive works – Lamento Pacis by Ton de Leeuw and Igor Stravinsky’s Cantata. Lamento Pacis has seldom been performed since its première in 1969, but proved to have lost little of its power and splendour.
As the Friesch Dagblad wrote: “It was amazing how inventively emotions were expressed in sounds that were modern. The singers of the Nederlands Kamerkoor and the instrumentalists of the Nieuw Ensemble gave a most penetrating and impressive account of this piece.”
The entire programme was very well received, not only in Heerenveen, but also in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Alkmaar, and particular praise was accorded the vocal soloists Karin van der Poel and Albert van Ommen, both NKK members, for their part in Stravinsky’s magnificent Cantata.
