Press release - Dreaming of Flying Machines

The prophet Ezekiel witnessed an object falling from the sky, and his description set many people thinking. Had he perhaps seen a space ship or aeroplane? Or was he dreaming of a distant future? Daedalus too dreamt of flying (in order thus to escape from the palace of King Minos) and designed his own wings, made of feathers and wax. But his son Icarus wanted to go higher and higher, to the sun; the wax melted and he plunged to earth. Dreams are a natural element of sleep and dreaming that youre flying belongs with it, which was no secret to Leonardo da Vinci. He therefore, like Daedalus, designed a flying machine, a great wooden bird, a first aeroplane҅
This programme with Peter Dijkstra gives the NKK ample scope to display its virtuosity, particularly in the pieces by Jackson, Whitacre and Salonen. Furthermore, every one of the pieces is surprisingly expressive and evocative.

The Nederlands Kamerkoor and Peter Dijkstra will record this programme for a cd, to be released under the label Channel Classics.
