Press release: Tenso Days

04.09.2009

Every year Tenso Network Europe organizes a festival in a European city. After successful Tenso Days in Paris, Berlin and Riga, the Nederlands Kamerkoor and Cappella Amsterdam will host this years event. They will receive colleagues from Latvia, France, Estonia and Norway in the Muziekgebouw aan t IJ in Amsterdam. During the Tenso Dagen Amsterdam the choirs work on new music and present the diversity of European choir music to the general public over a four day period.

TENSO
Tenso, a term from the Occitan troubadours tradition, means dialogue between singers and is the name of the European chamber choir network: Tenso Network Europe. Tenso choirs are internationally active professional chamber choirs whose programming lays the emphasis on new and recent music. The European Union supports the activities of the network. Tenso Network Europe aims to exchange expertise and repertoire, encourage composition and performance of contemporary chamber choir music and promote collaboration with amateurs and young singers.

CANON OF THE XXth CENTURY
The concerts present the most important pieces from the canon of XXth century chamber choir music. All the great composers such as Messiaen, Schnittke, Schnberg, Ligeti and Prt are featured, along with new compositions for a cappella chamber choir by composers from all over Europe. Tenso choirs will also pay homage to the seventeenth century Dutch composer Sweelinck by including a short psalm from his oeuvre in each of their concerts.

AMATEUR CHOIRS
On the Open Podium amateur chamber choirs from all over the Netherlands will perform their favourite XXth century and contemporary choir music. Amateur choirs can also enter the Win your own concert` competition, where a jury will select three amateur choirs to give concerts under the direction of one of the Tenso conductors.
