[...] “A moment of rest in the programme was formed by the instrumental Fauxbourdon (for flute, clarinet, mandolin, piano/ synthesizer, percussion, violin and viola) which, starting with some soft babbling, developed into a long chain of sound and a rhythmic climax. Also in The birth of music a wonderful sound world emerged from the dissonant chaos; with a never-ending breath support the singers produced such a perfectly timed and clever diminuendo that the audience itself listened with bated breath. This high-profile opening concert concluded with a wonderful performance of Igor Stravinsky’s Cantata, with soloists Karin van der Poel [alto] and Albert van Ommen [tenor], both in very fine voice and interpretatively strong, female chorus and the unsurpassed Nieuw Ensemble making an authentic Stravinsky sound.”
