Heavenly sounds from Lassus

‘Heavenly sounds from Lassus with Kamerkoor’ was the headline of the NRC’s review (23.11.09) of the concert of 16th-century chansons, motets and other works by Orlandus Lassus given the previous day in Groningen by the Nederlands Kamerkoor.
‘Yesterday’s concert had something of a séance about it: the choir stood in a small circle with their backs to the audience. This arrangement reinforced the introverted character of the music. [...] The singers’ supreme concentration proved particularly valuable in the stuttering motet S, U, su, P, E, R, per, super, which in a very roundabout way leads to the complete sentence ‘by the waters of Babylon we sat down and wept.’
