Review: Phenomenal concert by Nederlands Kamerkoor
05.12.2007[...] “In the Grote Kerk in Leeuwarden this phenomenal vocal ensemble gave a concert which continued to resound in the ears for a long time. What made it particularly special was that the Renaissance specialist of our time, Paul Van Nevel, had been engaged as guest conductor.” [...]
”Solo e pensoso by Luca Marenzio was the first piece sung by the Nederlands Kamerkoor. Beautiful music combined with an intense text. The good intonation, the surprisingly fine choral sound and the buoyant style of singing all created a pleasant sensation.” [...]
“Three works by contemporary composers followed. First the NKK sang Voi ch’ascoltate by Willem Ceuleers, which evoked the same atmosphere as the previous piece, but in this case in a more modern sound idiom and based more on chromatic sequences. Door de neev’len van den avond [by Schroyens, ed.] is also a contemporary composition in which the unity of text and music emerges in a special manner. A beautiful piece which was sung with perfect tuning.
Very special was Soleil, coeur du monde by Saskia Macris, which enjoyed its world première during this NKK series. Macris does not compose atonally, but creates long melodic lines which interweave, which in turn gives rise to special harmonies. With her, music and text achieve a high degree of unity: the music remains close to the text.” [...]
