The Nederlands Kamerkoor sang crisply and in perfect balance but on occasion also sounded somewhat muffled. The chorales were given room to breathe by means of lovely fluent tempi. The turbae choruses sounded rather more genial. Dynamics and drama were provided by Evangelist Markus Schäfer. He carried out his crucial role with the necessary text expression. Geert Smits complemented this nicely with his powerful reading of the role of Christ.” [...]
